We serve as missionaries to Latin America with the Assemblies of God USA. Prior to our career in missions we served in pastoral ministry in California. The cities of Ambato and Quito, Ecuador became our home for about fifteen years. During our time in this beautiful nation the Lord allowed us to plant churches in Ambato, Ibarra, Quito, Esmeraldas, and Riobamba, as well as participating with others in the opening of new fronts of ministry along the Pacific coast and in the Amazon Basin. While serving in Ecuador, we directed the Quito Task Force and served on the Executive Committee for the Ecuadorian Assemblies of God. Along the way God has permitted us the priviledge of sharing in planting new congregations in Valencia, Spain, and Orange County, California.
Our ministry now enters a new stage as we apply our years of experience as urban church planting evangelists and our academic career to the task providing literary and strategic resources for the people who are working tirelessly to extend the kingdom among the residents of Latin America's teeming cities.
Accurate statistics make an elusive target. The most up-to-date data that I have has been revised downward but still indicates that currently Latin America has eight cities with more than five million inhabitants; twenty-two between two and five million; thirty-eight more cities in excess of one million; another seventy-two cities range between 500 thousand and one million; and there are more than 532 cities with populations between 100 and 500 thousand. Yet very little is being done to ensure that we are up to the task of meeting the growing needs of the people who live in these cities.
